Verdict: Project Entropy is free to play on PC. Your first hours are about the Command Center, three resources, and one complete troop. Play Project Entropy on PC.
What the sources agree on
The sources were cross-referenced: the Steam page, Gimaxo's PC guide, Perfcore's review, and the developer's package page. Tier B measures source agreement. The base and troop systems rest on one guide. The combat mode is contested, and the specs conflict.
| Item | What the sources say | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Price model | Free to play, with in-app purchases | Steam |
| PC platform | Windows appears only in the system requirements | Steam |
| Modes | PvP, PvE, co-op campaign, MMO | Steam |
Release dates conflict. Steam gives April 16, 2024, Perfcore's body text gives the same date, and Perfcore's sidebar shows 2026.
The genre label splits the sources. Steam's tags include Strategy RPG and Base Building. The developer's package page says "Strategy RTS game where you can control Mechs." Perfcore says free-to-play sci-fi strategy RPG MMO.
Worth flagging: the combat mode differs by source. Gimaxo describes story and PvE battles as grid-based and largely automated. Perfcore describes real-time battles where you position units and trigger hero abilities. Neither source describes a test method, so both are reported claims.
The systems that matter in session one
Patch anchor: Gimaxo cites version 0.9.4 (mid-2026) in an article dated May 4, 2026. The systems below are as Gimaxo describes them at 0.9.4. Steam gives no patch version; the spec figures carry no version anchor.
| System | What it does | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Command Center | Upgrading unlocks a fixed set of structures | First |
| Resources | Food, metal, gold from farms, mines, refineries, or the world map | First |
| Troop | Hero (squad leader), vehicle (mech, tank, or aircraft), supporting weapon | First |
| Heroes | Summons, story, and events; faction affinity and vehicle synergy | After you have vehicles |
| Story and PvE battles | Grid-based, largely automated; special abilities can be timed | First |
| Region Map | Click-and-drag unit control; damaged squads can retreat | Second session |
| Alliances | Coordinated attacks, resource sharing, alliance buildings | Join early |
Your first session: the order
No source gives a beginner order, so these steps follow the systems above.
- Upgrade the Command Center. It gates which structures you can build. Check the unlock list before you spend.
- Build food, metal, and gold production. Farms, mines, and refineries feed the three resources. Harvest the world map when you're short.
- Recruit your first hero. Start with story and event rewards. Pick one whose faction matches a vehicle you own.
- Complete one full troop. A hero, a vehicle, and a supporting weapon. A troop missing one cannot be fielded.
- Run story and PvE battles on auto. Gimaxo's grid-based battles are the place to learn the troop loop. Perfcore describes real-time combat, so confirm the mode in your first fight.
- Try the Region Map once you're comfortable. Gimaxo describes click-and-drag control there. Pull damaged squads back early.
- Join an alliance. Resource sharing and coordinated attacks need one. Start your first run and join early.
- Leave purchases for later. Star Chips and VIP packages are optional, per the sources.
Variant: auto battles or the Region Map
| Path | Combat mode | Best for | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Story and PvE on auto | Grid-based, largely automated | Learning the base and troop loop | Gimaxo |
| Region Map, manual | Direct click-and-drag control | Resource and territory play; retreat decisions | Gimaxo |
| PvP | Alliance wars on the open-world map | Later, once your troops are built | Gimaxo, Steam |
Specs: the sources don't match
The Steam page and Gimaxo disagree. Gimaxo's minimum targets 1080p at low-medium. Its recommended figures 1440p at high. Gimaxo does not name the build it tested. Steam lists no recommended specs beyond 64-bit.
| Spec | Steam minimum | Gimaxo minimum | Gimaxo recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit | Windows 10, 64-bit | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit |
| CPU | Core 2 Duo E6400 or Athlon X64 4000+ | Core i3-6100 or Ryzen 3 1200 | Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600 |
| RAM | 4 GB | 4 GB | 8 GB or more |
| GPU | GTX 460 or Radeon HD 4400 | GTX 750 or integrated graphics | GTX 1060 or RX 580 |
| Storage | 8 GB | 10 GB | 15 GB SSD |
The Gimaxo article is dated May 4, 2026. The spec figures inside it carry no date of their own.

Common mistakes
- Assuming no build timers means fast progress. The sources say upgrades have no timers, not that they are cheap. Check costs first.
- Pulling heroes before you have vehicles. A hero without a matching vehicle is a weaker start, per the synergy rule. It is untested.
- Skipping alliances. Resource sharing and coordinated attacks are alliance features. Joining late means playing solo.
- Taking manual control too early. The Region Map is the second layer. Learn the troop loop on auto first.
What didn't hold up
Worth flagging: the award claims are unverified. Neither the Steam page nor Perfcore lists an award. "Grand Winner Best Game 2026" and "Players Choice Award Best Game 2026" are unverified, so this guide makes no award claim.
Two other claims only partly hold:
- Mechs. Perfcore describes piloting massive war machines into battle. Gimaxo lists mechs as one of three troop vehicle types.
- Rare resources. The sources name food, metal, and gold. None calls them rare.
What this guide does not cover
- Patches after 0.9.4. Check the in-game patch notes for changes since.
- Hero summon rates. None of the cited sources publishes gacha rates. Check in-game before you spend.
- Upgrade costs and stock levels. No source gives them.
Verdict: start with the base and one full troop
Start with the Command Center, one resource loop, and one complete troop. Leave hero pulls and manual Region Map play for your second session.
Is Project Entropy free to play on PC?
Does Project Entropy have PvP from the start?
No source says when PvP unlocks. Steam lists PvP as a mode, and Gimaxo places alliance PvP on the open-world map.
Is Project Entropy a real-time strategy game?
The sources disagree, so treat it as a strategy game with mixed combat modes until you see it in play. The developer's package page says "Strategy RTS." Gimaxo describes grid-based auto battles, and Perfcore describes real-time battles.
